The Red Duck Craft Bar and Bistro opened its doors on the 8th of February 2020 as a vibey Craft bar, Bistro and lounge. This was a dream come true not only for us as owners but also for team we were blessed to have put together after many years in the industry.
As we all know the global Covid-19 pandemic has been detrimental to us all regardless of the industry we operate in. We have had to come to terms with the fact that this is simply beyond our control and all that we can do is react and respond as effectively and safely as possible. With the restrictions that are in place and especially the risk of infection that arises in social gatherings (which our industry and many others rely on in order to operate feasibly) we have had to refocus our attention and plans for the immediate future.
Our new focus is simple and any contributions we receive through this initiative will be used towards the below.
1. To ensure all our employees and their families can cater to their basic needs. At the time of writing this 26% of South Africans did not have money for food – That is scary to think about. Our number 1 priority is ensuring that these households have food, electricity, baby formula and toiletries, general toiletries etc. Unfortunately with around 50-60 mouths to feed we cannot continue to do it alone especially seeing as it is expected that the full return of the hospitality industry is still months away . We emptied our store as the Lock Down commenced in order to create food packages for all staff members and since then we have been trying to support them as much as we can and we will continue to do so.
2. To reopen the Red Duck once this is all over and welcome back EVERY SINGLE staff member to a secure job. The process of reopening is going to be a huge challenge for all businesses and personally for us in the restaurant industry it will be almost like relaunching. We will have supplier accounts to pay up once the payment breaks have ended and have an entire store to restock in order to operate and then will begin the long uphill of climbing out of this recession, reestablishing ourselves and understanding the new market “Post Corona”. We are looking for the positive in all of this and we will be reopening with a new refreshed menu and some exciting physical additions to our store when the time is right.
We know this is a difficult time for all and any form of support is highly appreciated.
Stay Home, Stay Safe, until we see you again.
